ACC sues five NSU trustees, land developer

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Thursday filed a case against six people including five members of board of trustees of North South University (NSU) for allegedly embezzling over Tk 3.03 billion from the university's fund.
According to the commission, the accused individuals in collusion bought 90.97 acres (9096.88 decimal) of land at low price in the name of campus development but paid more money to the land developer.
The university paid more than Tk 3.03 billion (about Tk 3,038,213,497) to the land developer, of which a portion of the money was later withdrawn by close aide of some board of trustees' members via cheque.
The funds were then transferred to the accused that opened fixed deposit receipts (FDR) with several banks.
The accused are: Chairman of NSU board of trustees Azim Uddin Ahmed, trustees Benajir Ahmed, Rehana Rahman, Mohammed Shajahan, MA Kashem and managing director of Ashaloy Housing and Developers Amin Md Hilaly.
ACC's deputy director Farid Ahmed Patwary filed the case with its Dhaka integrated district office (IDO) as per section 409/109/420/161/165A of the Penal Code, section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947, and section 4(2)(3) of the Money Laundering Prevention Act, 2012.
