ACC sues two ex-UZ chairmen in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, Mar 14, (BSS): The Rajshahi local office of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has lodged two separate cases against two former upazila (UZ) chairmen in the district on charges of accumulating illegal wealth.
According to ACC sources, the accused are Jahangir Alam, former chairman of Godagari upazila and Lutfor Haider Rashid Moina, former chairman of Tanore upazila -- both Jubo League leaders.
ACC Assistant Director Muhammad Zinnatul Islam lodged the cases with the commission's district office on Thursday as the plaintiff, confirmed Deputy Director Fazlul Bari.
Citing the preliminary investigation report, he said the two were involved in various corrupt activities for a long time through their connection with former Rajshahi-1 MP Omor Faruque Chowdhury.
During the investigation, ACC found evidence that Jahangir Alam had illegally acquired wealth worth about Tk 11 million. Additionally, he possessed movable and immovable wealth worth about Tk 77 million. On the other hand, Lutfor Haider Rashid illegally obtained wealth worth about Tk 4.9 million He has total wealth amounting to about 11 million, including immovable wealth of about Tk 4.2 million and movable wealth of about Tk 6.9 million.
