ACC summons ex-state minister Sharif Ahmed

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) summoned Sharif Ahmed, former Awami League MP of Mymensingh-2 constituency and former state minister for housing and public works, on charges of abuse of power, embezzlement of government funds, and acquiring substantial illegal wealth including cars and houses through corruption.
Mohammad Nurul Huda, ACC deputy director and head of the inquiry team, served him a notice to appear at the commission head office on October 30.
Meanwhile, the ACC gave approval on Sunday to file a case against the Rupali Insurance Company Limited (RICL) chairman, one director and two others for alleged embezzlement of shares of Tk 36.27 million.
The accused included RICL chairman Mostafa Golam Quddus and director Shawon Ahmed, and Tahera Khatun and Md. Siraj Uddin Khan.
Mostafa Golam Quddus was a former president of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Expor-ters Association (BGMEA).
ACC spokesperson Akhtarul Islam confirmed these to The Financial Express on Sunday.
