ACC to grill Nixon among 3 in Padma Bridge graft case

FE Report The Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) served notices Monday on three people including Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury alias Nixon Chowdhury to face grilling on Padma Bridge corruption conspiracy case. The other two people are Bridges and Roads Department superintending engineer M Kamaruzzman and superintending engineer (river engineering) of Bangladesh Bridge Authority Liaqat Ali. The ACC probe team has already interrogated Nixon Chowdhury, also the younger brother of Whip Noor-E-Alam Chowdhury, over his alleged involvement in the corruption conspiracy. ACC Deputy Director Mirza Zahidul Alam served the notices asking the accused to be present in person at the anti-graft body headquarters on May 16 to face grilling, an ACC official told the FE. The ACC source also told the FE that these people were engaged in different types of works in Padma Bridge project. The ACC filed a case against seven suspects in connection with the graft conspiracy in the process of appointing a consultant for Padma Bridge project on December 17 last year. The four-member inquiry team of the ACC, led by its Deputy Director Abdullah Al Jahid, lodged the first information report (FIR) with Banani thana accusing former Bridge Division secretary Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan and six others. The persons accused in the case are: Kazi M Ferdous, superintending engineer (river engineering) of Bangladesh Bridge Authority (BBA), M Riaz Ahmed Zaber, executive engineer (bridge construction and maintenance) of Roads and Highways Department, Mohammad Mustafa, deputy managing director of Engineering and Planning Consultant Limited (EPC), Mohammad Ismail, former director (International Project Division) of SNC Lavalin Inc, Romesh Shah, former vice-president (International Project Division) of SNC Lavalin and Kevin Walace of the Canadian consultancy firm.
