ACC to interrogate two stenographers of judge Motahar

The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) will interrogate two stenographers of retired special judge Motahar Hossain who had acquitted BNP's senior vice-chairman Tarique Rahman of charges in a money laundering case as part of inquiry against the judge.
The investigation officer of the case ACC deputy director Harun-ur-Rashid sent notices to the stenographers, Md Abu Hasan and Nurul Islam, in this connection Wednesday. They will face grilling at the ACC headquarters in the city today (Thursday).
The commission has appointed Mr Rashid to carry out inquiry against the judge accusing that he has amassed illegal wealth abusing judicial power. ACC commissioner M Shahbuddin said recently that the judge owned a large amount of wealth which is inconsistent with his known sources of income.
"The commission launched a formal inquiry against Mr Hossain on receiving an allegation and on completing the scrutiny of the allegation by a team," he said.
The three-member inquiry team of the ACC found preliminary evidence supporting the allegation and requested the commissioner concerned to approve the inquiry against the judge, the ACC commissioner said.
Mr Hossain acquitted Tarique Rahman in a money-laundering case involving Tk 204.1 million. The High Court (HC) ordered Tarique Rahman to surrender in court in the money laundering case Sunday last.
The HC accepted the petition the commission had filed appealing against the lower court verdict that acquitted Tarique Rahman of the money laundering charges.
