ACC to probe crest-gold swindling allegation

Monday, 2 June 2014

The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) has decided to probe the allegation of gold swindling in the crests presented to foreign friends in recognition of their contributions to the country’s Liberation War in 1971.  The Commission at its regular meeting on Monday decided to conduct probe into the graft allegation, ACC sources said. As per government conditions, a crest should be made with 11.67 grams of gold and 30 grams of silver, but the Bangladesh Standard and Testing Institution (BSTI) in its test found only 2.37 grams of gold and no sliver in the crests. Bangladesh honoured a number of foreign people and organisations in recognition of their contribution to the country’s liberation war, according to a news agency.
