ACC to probe ex-AL MP HBM Iqbal’s graft

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Tuesday decided to investigate the allegations of corruption against ex-Awami League MP and chairman of Premier Bank HBM Iqbal, reports UNB.
ACC spokesperson Aktarul Islam said a decision was made on Tuesday to start the investigation against the chairman of Premier Bank HBM Iqbal.
HBM Iqbal was also the former Awami League lawmaker for Dhaka-10.
According to the primary investigation of the Commission's intelligence wing, he misused his power.
He has held the position of Chairman of Premier Bank since 2011 and while he also established Hotel Renaissance in Gulshan, Hilton Hotel & Resort in Gulshan-2, and Royal University of Dhaka.
He also became a member of the Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies (BAIRA).
On the other hand, ACC also decided to open a probe against former AL MP for Habiganj-3 Md Abu Zahir who amassed illegal assets through abuse of power and corruption.
According to the primary investigation, he possesses Tk 3.0 million in cash, savings certificates worth Tk 1.9 million, a plot from RAJUK, and assets worth crores of taka in his wife's name.
