The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has decided to investigate the corruption of four former Members of Parliament (MP), including State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Zakir Hossain, for amassing wealth by abusing their positions.
The other three MPs are Mohammad Habib Hasan of Dhaka-18 constituency, Md. Nurul Islam Talukder of Bogra-3, and Abdul Wadud of Chapainawabganj-3.
The decision was made at a commission meeting on Wednesday, said ACC Deputy Director Akhtarul Islam.
The ACC will conduct investigations based on the complaints filed against the four former MPs and the initial reports prepared by the ACC intelligence unit.
According to the documents in possession of the ACC, Zakir Hossain has accumulated movable and immovable assets worth Tk 51.8 million. During his tenure as state minister, he illegally approved the inclusion of 26 schools under the Shishu Kalyan Trust in Kurigram, abusing his position.
Another former MP, Habib Hasan, illegally purchased a house in Canada for his son Abir Hasan Tanim for 1.5 million Canadian dollars. The ACC has also discovered a significant amount of illegal assets belonging to his family members, both domestically and internationally.
