ACC to probe role of ex-SJIBL chair in swindling Tk 18b

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has decided to look into alleged involvement of former chairman of Shahjalal Islami Bank Limited (SJIBL) Anwar Hossain Khan in embezzlement of Tk 18 billion.
ACC deputy director Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya confirmed this to The FE on Thursday.
He said a two-member probe committee has been formed with ACC assistant director Abu Bakar Siddique as its chief to investigate the allegation.
The ACC sources said it was alleged that Anwar Hossain Khan embezzled Tk 18 billion using his power when he served as director in six banks.
According to primary information in the ACC, Mr Anwar Hossain Khan also laundered a huge sum of money abroad and held undisclosed wealth.
The two-member probe committee will examine all the irregularities. Mr Khan is the sponsor shareholder and director of Shahjalal Islami Bank Limited and Shahjalal Islami Bank Securities Limited.
He is also the Chairman and Managing Director of Modern Diagnostic Centre Ltd. He is the Director of Fareast Finance & Investment Ltd. and Takaful Islamic Insurance Ltd.
He is a member of the governing body of Prime University and founder of Anwer Khan Modern Hospital Ltd.
