FE Report | Monday, 15 September 2014
The Anti- Corruption Commission (ACC) will quiz former State Minister for Housing and Public Works Alamgir Kabir and three others over land allocation to journalists at a lower rate causing Tk 155 million loss to the State.
ACC deputy director Jatan Kumar Roy sent notices to the persons on Sunday to be present at the ACC on September 21.
The three other accused named in the case are former deputy director of the National Housing Authority (NHA) M Azaharul Haque, NHA office assistant M Matiar Rahman and its cashier Mansur Alam.
ACC sources said the anti-corruption watchdog will quiz some more 15 persons on September 22 and 23 over the allegation.
Earlier on March 6 this year, Jatan Kumar Roy filed a case with the Shagbagh Police Station in the capital against the four persons for allegedly causing a loss of about Tk 155 million to the government by allocating land to journalists at a lower rate.
According to the case statement, Alamgir Kabir sent a letter to the then prime minister in 2002 with a request for building a housing area for journalists, writers, artists and cultural activists without receiving any application from them.
In response, the then prime minister sent the letter to the housing and public works secretary asking him to take steps in this regard following the rules. As it was under process, Alamgir directed the housing and public works secretary to allocate it from a previously designed housing land.
