ACC to submit charge sheets in 13 cases today

The Anti-Corruption Commission will submit charge sheets in 13 cases today (Sunday) against individuals like former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia's parliamentary affairs adviser Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury, and Awami League leader Dr HBM Iqbal and his wife.
"Yes, preparations are completeā€¦The Commission will submit charge sheets in 13 cases today with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court," a competent source told UNB.
Eight charge sheets will be submitted against Salahuddin Quader, Dr Iqbal and his wife, former BNP MP Hafiz Ibrahim and his wife, former BNP MP Rashiduzzaman Millat and his wife, former CBA leader BM Bakir Hossain and his wife, former BNP MP Nasir Uddin Pintu and his wife, BNP ward commissioner Chowdhury Alam and six others, and former Jamaat MP Shahjahan Chowdhury for concealing information and acquiring wealth beyond their known sources of income.
A charge sheet will be submitted against former chief conservator of forest M Anwarul Islam for recruiting people illegally by abusing power.
The ACC will submit charge sheet in the non-submission case against former Prime Minister Khaleda's assignment officer Dr Firoj Mahmud Iqbal for not submitting his wealth statement in due time. A first information report was filed with Ramna police station on August 5.
The Commission on Thursday approved the submission of these charge sheets.
The Commission will also submit a charge sheet against a former administrative officer of the Prime Minister's Office for allegedly taking Tk 93 lakh through cheques in bribe.
Two charge sheets will be submitted against different bank officials for misappropriating money from Oriental Bank.
Another report adds: The ACC will question former six secretaries, including ex-Cabinet secretary and PSC chairman Sa'dat Hossain, a former additional secretary and one senior official, today (Monday) in connection with the container handling case filed against Khaleda Zia.
Sources said investigation officer of the case ACC deputy director Jahirul Huda issued letters Thursday to the former secretaries to appear before the three-member investigation team in person.
Those summoned to the Commission also include former Information secretary Mirza Tasadduk Hossain Beg, former Implementation Monitoring and Evaluation Department secretary Manik Lal Samaddar, former Communications secretary Nazrul Islam, former Finance secretary Zakir Hossain Khan, deputy secretary of the Communications Ministry ATKM Ismail and former additional secretary of the Prime Minister's Office Nurul Islam.
On September 25, five former influential ministers -- Saifur Rahman, Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan, Motiur Rahman Nizami, MK Anwar and Shamsul Islam -- were questioned by the investigation team. All these ministers were in the purchase committee that approved the awarding of the contract to a particular company.
On September 2, ACC deputy director Golam Shahriar Chowdhury filed the case against BNP Chairperson Khaleda, her younger son Koko and 11 others for alleged irregularities in awarding the container-handling contract.
