ACC told to quiz Moudud at jail gate

A Dhaka court on Monday ordered for interrogating BNP leader Barrister Moudud Ahmed at jail gate within three working days in a case filed by Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) for purportedly grabbing a government house in Gulshan in the city. Additional Chief Metropolitian Magistrate Ali Masud Sheikh passed the order upon a plea submitted by ACC deputy director Harunur Rashid and rejecting Moudud’s bail petition. On Jan 21 this year, a Dhaka court showed Moudud Ahmed arrested in the case. On Dec 17, 2013, the ACC filed the case against Moudud and his brother Manzur Ahmed on charge of grabbing a government house worth about Tk 3 billion. According to the first information report (FIR), the Dhaka Improvement Trust, established in 1956 (now renamed Rajuk), handed over a one bigha and 14 katha plot in Gulshan to Mohammd Ehsan on Dec 30, 1961. Later, the land was registered against the name of his wife, Inge Maria Flatz, an Austrian national, in 1965. Ehsan was a Pakistani national. As Ehsan and Flatz had left the country before the announcement of the list of government abandoned houses on Jan 21, 1972, the plot was included in the list of abandoned houses. In Aug 1973, Moudud allegedly prepared a fake power of attorney of Flatz to grab the land and used it to gain his own interest. Since then, Moudud had been living in the house showing himself as a tenant of Flatz. The FIR claimed that Moudud has been using the house since 1978 making different fake documents against the name of his brother, Manzur Ahmed, according to UNB.
