Accelerating investment in SME sector stressed

More expansion of investment to Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) sector is needed for bolstering economic condition of both urban and rural areas together with freeing the society from the vicious circle of poverty. Bankers and business leaders have said this while addressing a programme in Rajshahi city. As the SME sector is labour-intensive so its successful promotion could be the effective means of alleviating poverty, generating employment and thereby accelerating economic growth, they said. President of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Abu Bakker Ali said employment generation and labour-intensive industrialisation could be possible through proper investment in establishment and expansion of SMEs to attain sustainable economic development and GDP growth and development of potential entrepreneurship. He urged the bankers to be more proactive towards disbursing SME loan for the best uses of the existing potentialities. General Manager of Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank (RAKUB), Abdul Khaleque Khan dwelt on the country’s SME investment scenario and RAKUB’s adopted strategies to promote the sector furthermore, according to BSS.
