Accommodation for DU students

Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) member Tanbir Hasan Shaikat has given an ultimatum to the university authorities to solve accommodation problem on the campus. Otherwise, he along with some first year undergraduate students plans to shift to the official residence of the Vice-Chancellor, according to media reports. That the students suffer for accommodation crisis is an old issue. Tanbir has vacated his own seat at a dormitory as he as a student leader could not help solve the issue. He has started staying with newcomers in what is called a Gano room (mass room) where many students live as they are still not entitled to allotment of room in dormitory. The residents of such rooms have to take part in activities of dominant student bodies and abide by what the leaders say. We hope, the university authorities will take urgent steps to solve accommodation problem in a fair manner.
