ROBIN is a manager working in a renowned IT firm of the city. Prior to joining this non-government organisation, he did his honours and masters in Statistics from a public university and did a diploma course in computer science. While continuing his job at this IT firm, he realised that he needed a formal degree in IT and so he got admitted in a masters programme in computer science in a private university in Dhamondi area. Now he attends class at evening after hard toil at office from morning till afternoon. He keeps late hours for preparing himself for the classes. He enjoys being a student again.
In Dhaka city, it is very common these days to see corporate executives attending classes at evening in various universities. You will often find them in some nearby shops on the street, close to their university, between their classes.
There are many executives today who feel the urge to take a new degree in order to enhance their qualifications. In most cases, they go for studying business (MBA), computer science, development studies, governance and other subjects..
This is all about facing the new challenges in the professional life. With the increase of competition within the organisation and in the industry, executives have started realising this. Many of them also feel attracted to earn such additional degrees in order to enhance their compensation package.
Such additional academic qualifications obviously open more windows of career options in one's life. One can take up 'new jobs' with one's new academic qualification and can mould career according to own choice.
True, studying while working is tough. After day's hard toil when you are going to attend a class, you might not feel that interested. Still, if you can make it a habit to be interested and attentive, you will gain. Remember, this is all about shining your qualification and career. This will make your life easier.
It is always good to inform the office and seek its consent prior to your such involvement for studies because in many offices employees have to work for long hours. You can leave for your university just after the office hour, and also sometimes you may take leave for any important exam.
How to take permission from your authority? Convince them how this is going to help the organisation and how you are going to contribute better to the organisation after you take the degree.
The interesting part of studying during working is you can apply whatever knowledge you earn from university very quickly in your profession. And of course, you will find yourself a different 'executive' after you obtain the degree and you will see your scope of works has been widened. Surely, you can work more responsibly and efficiently for your organisation.
