Acting JMB chief among 7 held in city

Detectives detained 7 members of Jamaa’tul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), a banned outfit, on Thursday night. The 7, including the JMB’s acting chief, were picked up from Dhaka’s Turag neighbourhood with a big cache of explosives. Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police made the arrests at a house under Turag Police Station in the outskirts of the city. The arrestees include the Islamist organisation’s acting chief ‘Tasnim’, DMP Deputy Commissioner Masudur Rahman said Friday. He said: ‘They were held with a large quantity of explosives. We have information that they were planning a large-scale sabotage.’ He said police will brief the media on Friday afternoon, according to private TV channels.
