Saturday, 17 July 2010

BOGRA, July 16 (bdnews24.com): Anwar Alam Khoka alias 'Bhagne Shahid' alias Nazmul, the acting chief of banned Islamist outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), has been sent to the city under tight security Friday.
Criminal Investigation Department (CID) inspector of Bogra police Md Abdur Rashid Sarkar told the news agency that the team transporting Bhagne Shahid had set off for the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Office around 9.30am.
He also said that Shahid would be sent back to Bogra Saturday.
A detective official said Shahid had been brought to Dhaka to investigate the suspected ties between the militant organisation and top leaders of the fundamentalist organisation Jama'at-e-Islami.
He would be further questioned about the JMB hit list of 12 of the country's top figures.
During the questioning, Shahid would be brought face to face with the detained JMB chief Saidur Rahman and the top five arrested Jama'at leaders.
On July 13, tipped off by the police headquarters' intelligence wing, a team comprising Detective Branch officials and Bogra police apprehended Shahid from a Dinajpur-bound bus in Silishpur area on the Bogra-Rangpur bypass road.
The team recovered a pistol and three rounds of ammunition from him during the drive.
However, the identities of the law enforcers, who participated in the drive, was kept secret for security reasons.
The Bogra police presented Shahid to Bogra Chief Judicial Magistrates' Court Wednesday and petitioned to remand him in custody for seven days. Magistrate Md Hasanuzzaman granted five days.
