FE Report
Communication minister Syed Abul Hossain said the government will start a drive through 17 magistrates soon to take action against rogue transport drivers including those of CNG-run auto-rickshaws.
The minister said this while responding to a question of Kamal Ahmed Majumder (Dhaka-15) during the question-answer session of parliament Thursday.
He said the 17 magistrate courts, led by Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA), will conduct the drive to stop harassment over fair by the drivers of various transports including taxi-cab, auto-rickshaw. The drivers refuse to go to any destination and follow fair meter.
The minister said the communications ministry has requested the establishment ministry to provide 20 magistrates to conduct the drive as the two magistrates' courts of BRTA are insufficient to perform such a job.
Replying to another question on railway reform, the communications minister said the government's plan to introduce electric railway is in primary stage, but an effort is underway to seek assistance from the donors for development of railway network.
He said Tk 1.0 billion loan of the Indian government will be utilised for building railway infrastructure. The government will need the Indian fund to modernise the Syedpur Railway Workshop.
