Active BD participation in D-8 confce sought

Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu has been requested to help in ensuring active participation of Bangladeshi entrepreneurs in the 4th Ministerial Meeting of D-8 Industrial Cooperation, to be held in Tehran from January 26 to 28.
Iranian Ambassador in Bangladesh Dr Abbas Vaezi made the request when he called on the minister at the industries ministry on Thursday, reports BSS.
"The participation of petrochemical industrial entrepreneurs of Bangladesh, in particular, would create new opportunities for trade between the two countries," he said.
The Iranian envoy apprised the minister about the overall preparations for the 4th D-8 (Developing-8) conference of industries ministers and stressed the need for active participation of the member states to increase bilateral and multilateral trade among them.
The industries minister said there are vast scopes to increase trade among the D-8 member countries.
He assured the envoy of his cooperation to increase participation of industrial entrepreneurs from Bangladesh.
He suggested enhancing communications between the Iranian chamber and Bangladesh trade bodies in this connection.
The minister will lead the Bangladesh delegation to the 4th D-8 conference of industries ministers in Iran.
D-8 is a grouping for development cooperation among Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan and Turkey.
These eight countries represent 13 per cent of the world population and 60 per cent of the Muslim population.
