Actress S Zaman, artist Shafiuddin pass away

Noted film actress Sultana Zaman died of old-age complications at her residence in the city Sunday, reports UNB. She was 76.
Sultana Zaman who had long been suffering from kidney ailments breathed her last at 7:30 am.
She left behind one son and one daughter, and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn her death.
The actress was laid to eternal rest at Mirpur Intellectuals' Graveyard after Zohr prayers Sunday.
Sultana Zaman, veteran actress of the 60s, was born in Natore. Her debut film "Matir Paharh" was released in 1959.
She received National Film Award in 2009 for Lifetime Achievement.
Information and Cultural Affairs Minister Abul Kalam Azad expressed his profound shock at the death of Sultana Zaman.
Meanwhile, Eminent painter and printmaker Shafiuddin Ahmed died of old age ailments at a city hospital early Sunday. He was 90.
He left behind his wife, two sons, one daughter and a host of relatives and admirers to mourn his death.
Artist Shafiuddin was a familiar name in the local art scene for over six decades. His themes include rural life, landscapes, memories of 1971, language movement, flood and environmental disasters.
He was a friend and colleague of Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin, one of the founders of Dhaka Fine Arts Institute.
President Zillur Rahman has expressed his deep shock at the deaths of Shafiuddin Ahmed and Sultana Zaman.
In a condolence message Sunday, the President said that the nation with deep respect would remember contributions of both artistes.
The President also prayed for the departed souls and expressed his sympathy to the bereaved family members.
