Actress Sharmili Ahmed dies

Eminent actress Sharmili Ahmed passed away in the city on Friday after a prolonged battle with cancer. She was 75, reports UNB.
Ahsan Habib Nasim, president of Actors' Equity Bangladesh, told the media that the actress had been suffering from cancer for a long time.
"As her condition deteriorated on Friday morning, she was taken to a private hospital from her Uttara residence where she breathed her last," he said.
Suborna Mustafa, another eminent actress and Member of Parliament, wrote in her Facebook post that the legendary actress "breathed her last at her home this morning".
"My beautiful chachi, the great actor of our times, Sharmili Ahmed breathed her last this morning. May her soul rest in eternal peace," she wrote.
Born in 1947 in Belur Chok village of Murshidabad, Sharmili started her career on radio in 1962.
