SIRAJGANJ, Jul 24: Acute seed crisis is seriously hampering Aman cultivation in the district, sources said.
In the situation, the farmers are passing their days in utter frustration because they have not yet been able to prepare their land for Aman cultivation due to seed crisis.
According to local farmers, they could not collect seeds from the last year's crop because of incessant rain.
They alleged that they were not getting adequate help from the district office of Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) in this connection.
Contacted, district BADC officials said they had received adequate supply of seeds for the current Aman season against the demand but those were distributed among the farmers through the dealers.
Local farmers alleged that by taking advantage of the situation unscrupulous traders were selling Aman seeds at exorbitant prices.
In the circumstances, they have urged the government to take immediate steps in this connection.
