ADB holds regional forum in Delhi tomorrow

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is going to hold a two-day regional consultation forum in New Delhi on Wednesday next for undertaking strategic framework on soft-loan disbursement to its six South-Asian borrowers, including Bangladesh.
According to sources, the Manila-based donor will consult with its borrower countries in the New Delhi aiming to finalise its long-term loan policy from its soft-window -- Asian Development Fund (ADF).
In the New Delhi meeting titled "Regional Consultation on the Review of Long Term Strategic Framework", the ADB's borrower countries in South-Asian region -- Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka and the Maldives -- will take part.
A high-powered delegation from Bangladesh will leave Dhaka for New Delhi today (Tuesday) to attend the two-day regional forum of the ADB.
Bangladesh is expected to request the ADB to extend the Bank's support to the country's development efforts in future.
Economic Relations Division (ERD) Secretary Aminul Islam Bhuiyan, Power Secretary Fouzul Kabir and the director general of Primary and Mass Education Directorate will attend the New Delhi meeting, the source said.
A senior ERD official told the FE Monday that Bangladesh delegation would mainly highlight Bangladesh's requirement for loan to some specific sectors, including power, education, health, disaster management, flood rehabilitation and infrastructure development.
