Wednesday, 23 April 2014

The Asian development Bank (ADB) will provide $250 million to Bangladesh for ‘Dhaka Environmentally Sustainable Water Supply’ to increase supply of surface water in the capital. Economic Relations Division (ERD) secretary Md Mejbahuddin and ADB new country director Kazuhiko Higuchi will sign a concessional loan agreement on behalf of their respective sides on Thursday at the NEC-II conference room in the city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area, said an official at the ERD. The official said under the project, surface water of Meghna River would be brought to the capital through pipeline and then treated after setting up a treatment plant. Amid gradually decline in ground water level, the project is also expected to assist the Dhaka WASA’s bid to supply 1.9 billion liters of surface water per day to the Dhaka city dwellers by 2021, according to UNB.
