An additional secretary to the government was killed as a passenger bus knocked him down on Dhanmondi Road in the capital Friday morning, police said. The deceased was identified as Mohammad Abu Taher, who was attached to the Establishment Ministry as an officer on special duty (OSD) after being promoted to the post of additional secretary. The victim hailed from Alipur of Homna in Comilla and resided at Kalyanpur in the city with the members of his family. A sub-inspector of Dhanmondi Police Station said a Motijheel-bound bus of Bikalpa Paribahan knocked him down from behind while he was crossing the road, leaving him seriously injured. Mr Taher following the accident was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors on-duty declared him dead. The police officer said they seized the vehicle but failed to arrest the driver or the helpers of the bus. Anisuzzaman, son of the victim, told reporters that his father was recently made OSD after being promoted to the post of additional secretary. He also said his father went out from their house in the morning to go to their shop at Dhanmondi in the city.
