FENI, May 26 (UNB): Jahid Chowdhury alias Jahed, one of the masterminds of Phulgazi upazila chairman Ekramul Haque Ekram killing, told a local court Monday that ruling party leader Jahangir Kabir Adel alias Jahangir Adel had ordered physical assault on Ekram and vandalising his vehicle.
Jahed, joint general secretary of Phulgazi upazila Awami League and a close aide to Feni-2 ruling party MP Nizam Uddin Hazari, said this when police produced him before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court with a 10-day remand prayer.
Jahangir Adel is the joint general secretary of district Awami League.
Meanwhile, the court placed him on an eight-day remand in the sensational murder case.
Jahed was taken to the court at around 3:30pm amid tight security. No lawyer stood for him during the hearing.
Meanwhile, supporters of slain Ekramul Haque attacked the house of local Awami League leader Belayet Hossain Belal at Islampur village and set it on fire suspecting his involvement in the gruesome murder.
Police and witnesses said around 40-50 Ekram's followers attacked the house of Belal, a member of Anandapur union parishad and the union unit Awami League president, at around 11:00am.
The rowdy Ekram supporters vandalised furniture and valuables of the house before torching it by pouring petrol. The fire spread to five other houses damaging those.
They also set fire to two straw piles of Belal in front of the house.
Belal reportedly fled the house sensing danger as the angry Ekram's supporters were marching towards it.
