Adequate awareness for preventing child marriage underscored

RANGPUR, May 19 (BSS): Speakers at a day-long training course Tuesday stressed on the essence for creating adequate awareness through launching vigorous social movement, involving every citizen, for preventing child marriage.
They were addressing the training course organised by Oporajeyo-Bangladesh, an NGO, at Kachhimon Nesa Girls School in Pirganj upazila town here in the district.
The District Children Affairs Office assisted the NGO in organising the training course under the 'Enhancing awareness building programme on child marriage for preventing repression against children' of the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs.
With Pirganj Upazila Women Affairs Officer Nuresh Kawser Jahan in the chair, Upazila Nirbahi Officer ATM Ziaul Islam attended the awareness building training course as the chief guest.
Project Coordinator of Oporajeyo-Bangladesh Mahbubul Alam, its Child Rise Officer Akhteruzzaman Rana, former President of Pirganj Press Club Sarwar Jahan, journalists Sebu Mostafiz, Nurunnabi Sarder, Abdul Karim and Belayet Hossain Sarker spoke.
Upazila level officials, NGO executives, journalists, teachers, students, adolescents, youths, professionals, community and socio-political leaders, religious leaders, marriage registrars, public representatives and human rights activists participated.
The speakers narrated the grievous impacts of child marriage on the premature girls leading them to shattered and catastrophic lives destroying their future and increasing neonatal, maternal and children deaths in rural areas.
