RAJSHAHI, Aug 1: Transplantation of T-Aman seedling in Tanore upazila has got momentum following adequate rainfall during the ongoing monsoon after almost five years of drought situation everywhere in the northern region.
During a visit in the upazila, a large number of farmers were seen busy cultivating Aman paddy in the fields.
According to the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) sources, the farmers have started transplanting T-Aman seedling on about 21,470 hectares land which is over 94 per cent of the target of bringing 22,465 hectares to produce 66,370 tonnes clean Aman rice this season in the upazila.
While expressing their pleasure over the rainfall in recent days, farmers  Mozahar Ali, Akhtar Hossain, Selim Uddin and many others said they have already completed transplantation of T-Aman seedlings Thursday last.
Sohrab Hossain, member of Baiddopur ward of Bandhair Upazila Parishad, said the farmers always hope for a better from Aman cultivation as the cultivation of Aman paddy needs less cost compared to other crops because rain water comes as the bounty of nature.
Lack of sufficient rainfall gripped the Aman growers with deep frustration in last five years. This year we have overcome the drought due to enough rainfall, he added.
In this regard, Proshanto Kumar Sarkar, Tanore upazila agriculture officer, said this year farmers of the upazila cultivated Aman paddy on 21,470 hectares of land after five years of consecutive drought. He expected that farmers would get bumper production this time.
