Adequate steps taken for economic growth: Adviser

The present government has taken adequate measures for the country's economic growth to remove the disparity between rich and poor as well as restoring ethical values and ensuring good governance in the institutions.
Adviser for Finance and Planning AB Mirza Azizul Islam disclosed this while speaking as the chief guest at the 54th installation ceremony of newly elected 14-member Board of Directors of Rotary Club of Narayanganj for the year 2007-2008 at Narayanganj Club Thursday, report agencies.
Chaired by newly elected President Abduhu Arif Mahamud, the function was addressed, among others, by former Rotary District Governor MA Wahab, Immediate past President Ahmed Shamsuddin, Secretary Md Abul Bashar Fakir and Rotarian Hafiz Ullah, Deputy Commissioner Faizul Kabir, Maksud of joint forces, and additional police super Masud Karim.
In the process of economic development, speedy economic growth took place in many South Asian countries like China, India, Malaysia and Indonesia, the finance adviser said adding that Bangladesh was almost close to achieving seven per cent growth in economic development aimed at poverty eradication.
He stressed the need for high ethical standard of the businessmen and for private initiative to establish a dependable market system.
Referring to the on-going drives against corruption, the adviser said the noble initiative of the government has been acclaimed both domestically and internationally.
Listing different steps he said the government is striving hard to bring about institutional reforms like anti corruption commission, election commission, central bank and other regulatory bodies for the well-being of the nation.
