This year's three-day long Adibashi Cultural Festival kicked off Thursday with indigenous people from around the country taking part in a colourful pageant in front of the Shilpakala Academy, reports bdnews24.com.
The chief adviser's special assistant in charge of CHT affairs Raja Debashish Roy was the chief guest at the inauguration of the festival, presided over by handicrafts pioneer Monjulika Chakma.
Representatives from the country's eitnic communities wore traditional clothes and kept up a rhythmic beat with locally made drums to announce the start of the three-day festival.
Approximately 200 artists from the Chakma, Murma, Tripura, Tanchonga, Bom, Rakhain, Santal, Monipuri, Hajong, Garo and other tribes are participating in the event.
The organisers said various cultural groups will hold programmes Thursday, Friday and Saturday to celebrate their unique cultures.
Shilpakala Academy will also show a documentary on the lives of indigenous communities as well as holding an exhibition of handicrafts throughout the festival.
