Adviser to the Ministries of Industries, Housing and Public Works Adilur Rahman Khan on Monday asked the high officials of Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) to start work in framing a roadmap for improving the national standard of products.
"The standard of products must be ensured because it is needed for the development of industries and also improving the living standard of the people," he said while speaking at a discussion organised by BSTI marking the World Standards Day, reports BSS.
Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Industries Zakia Sultana presided over the meeting held at the Foreign Service Academy.
Adilur Rahman said as the BSTI is responsible for ensuring the quality of products, it will have to expand its operation across the country overcoming all obstacles.
"Making plan is not enough . . . you must work to ensure that people get quality products," he added.
He said the interim government has already formed several reform commission committees, which are expected to start work from December or January.
The government is also giving more emphasis to strengthen the capacity of BSTI to formulate and implement the Bangladesh Standards of products and services, he said.
"BSTI facilitates this process by harmonising local standards with global benchmarks, enabling Bangladesh products to meet the requirements of international buyers," he added.
Administrator of FBCCI Md. Hafizur Rahman attended the meeting as a key speaker while Director General (DG) of BSTI SM Ferdous Alam delivered the welcome speech.
Pro-Vice Chancellor of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) Prof. Dr. Abdul Hasib Chowdhury presented the keynote paper.
