Admit Rizvi to BSMMU: HC tells jail authorities

Wednesday, 19 August 2015

The High Court (HC) on Wednesday ordered the central jail authorities to admit BNP leader Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) for medical treatment. An HC bench comprising Justice Naima Haider and Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam issued the rule after hearing a writ petition filed by Rizvi’s lawyer. Attorney General Mokhlesur Rahman represented the state while advocate Joynal Abedin and Advocate Sagir Hossain Leon stood for Rizvi. Rizvi’s lawyers filed the writ on August 16 seeking the HC’s direction to admit the BNP joint secretary general to the BSMMU for his medical treatment mentioning that he has been suffering from various health complications. Amid the BNP’s non-stop nationwide transport blockade, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel arrested Rizvi from a house in Dhaka’s Baridhara area on January 31, according to a news agency.
