FE Report
The government will drop unimportant projects from the annual development programme (ADP) to divert resources to the post-cyclone rehabilitation activities.
"We will rigorously scrutinise the ADP to exclude unimportant projects," said Finance and Planning Adviser Mirza Azizul Islam on possible funding of the post-cyclone rehabilitation programme.
The funds to be diverted from the ADP and also from the block allocation head will be adequate to run the post-cyclone rehabilitation, he added.
The powerful cyclone SIDR hit the country's Southern part last week as the country is yet to recoup the losses it had suffered due to two consecutive floods this year.
"Resources will not be problem for rehabilitation," said Azizul Islam, adding that there is sufficient block allocations in the budget and foreign funds.
About Tk 2.5 billion was earlier diverted from the ADP for the current fiscal for the post flood recovery programme. Most part of the country was hit by two rounds of floods in the middle part of this year.
The finance and planning adviser said relief programme and food for work activities, which were taken up following the floods, will be extended to the cyclone hit areas.
To a query, he said the government is yet to make a preliminary assessment of the losses caused by the cyclone.
Quoting agricultural adviser and initial information, Mirza Aziz said there would not be any big loss of Aman crop in the cyclone hit districts.
He, however, admitted that extensive damage was caused to dwelling houses by the cyclone.
To help rebuild the houses in the cyclone hit areas, the government has already released Tk 350 million from the block allocation, he added.
