Adulteration and praiseworthy DMP initiative

Wednesday, 11 June 2014

It is indeed good to know that the Dhaka Metropolitan Police will set up check posts to check against entrance of adulterated fruits into the capital. While expressing cautious optimism, we feel that in doing so first of all the DMP should make sure that the police should not make it their illegal business of getting toll. Sorry if I sound pessimistic but many of our good efforts are frustrated because of the vile attitude of the law enforcing agency. The import of formalin should be restricted so that it is not available for everyone and anyone.
It has become very urgent for the government to check adulteration as the practice has reached an alarming level and if we do not fight collectively, it will create havoc on our national health. Now the food adulteration has become so widespread that the common people do not believe that they can get rid of it.  Such notion of the common people reflects how little confidence they have in the government machinery.
Formalin is a colourless chemical so when the unscrupulous traders use it with fruits we cannot detect it with naked eyes.  Fruits are being considered as nature's best gift for human beings, but we cannot even eat fruits nowadays without being worried about its safety. I am glad that the DMP has taken some positive initiative to prevent fruit adulteration and I hope they will be successful in preventing this deadly menace.
