Advance bus tickets for July 15-16 sold out within hours
FE Report | Friday, 3 July 2015
Advance bus tickets for July 15 and 16, focusing the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr, were sold out in just four hours after private bus operators inaugurated the sales on Friday.
According to ticket seekers, most bus ticket counters declared all tickets for these two days were ‘finished’ by 11am.
For those who managed to grasp some tickets, many complained that the prices of advance tickets were much higher than the standard rate.
Bus operators, mainly plying along the northern and southern regions, sell advance bus tickets ahead of religious festivals like Eid-ul-Fitr to avoid huge rush of homebound passengers.
This year, tickets for July 14, 15 and 16 were most in demand as Eid-ul-Fitr commences between July 18 and 19.
Tickets from July 9 onwards are being considered as advance tickets.
Visiting bus counters of several large bus operators, including Hanif, Nabil, SR, Shyamoli, Eagle, Shohag at Kalabagan, College Gate, Shyamoli, Kallyanpur, technical and Gabtoli bus counters, the FE found hundreds of ticket seekers in frustration as they failed to grasp any tickets.
Earlier, two major bus operators – SR Paribahan and Nabil Paribahan – announced that they will put a major share of their advance tickets for online sales.
However, following objections from commuters and the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA), bus owners backtracked from their ‘online sales’ decision.
Advance ticket sales on Friday across different bus counters began between 5am and 7am.
