Adviser, officials scrutinise budgetary suggestions today

Thursday, 19 June 2008

Finance Adviser Mirza Azizul Islam Wednesday said he has so far one or two small budgetary measures in mind to consider for correction, reports UNB.

He, however, would not disclose the issues before finalising them as the officials were busy scrutinising the post-budget suggestions.

The Adviser is scheduled to sit with senior officials concerned today (Thursday) to see and scrutinise the recommendations. Officials said the ministry has received 542 recommendations through direct mails or website postings.

"I don't think there will be any major changes," he told journalists at the Planning Ministry.

Aziz and his associate officials went deep through the budget documents immediately after announcing it to identify inconsistencies, he said.

He also pointed out that there were some problems, which had no solution in the budget unless the sector-specific issues like plastic industry kept unresolved by the stakeholders concerned. "Let them solve their problem first," he said.
