Advocacy meeting calls for ensuring human rights for all

RAJSHAHI, July 27 (BSS): Speakers underscored the need for ensuring human rights for all in the country for the sake of establishing social justice in every sphere of life.
The speakers said this at the regional advocacy meeting on "National Human Rights Commission Ordinance 2007 Review' organised by the local unit of Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust (BLAST) at the conference hall of Advocate Bar Association in the city Saturday.
"There's no alternative to containing the frequent human rights violation in almost every section of the society to ensure people's welfare," they said.
Chief Judicial Magistrate Muhammad Rezaul Islam addressed the meeting as the chief guest with local Bar Association General Secretary Advocate Nazmus Sadat in the chair.
BLAST Executive Director Tasmilur Rahman, local Coordinator Advocate Abdus Samad, advocates Hamidul Haque and Abu Bakar, and Assistant Professor Hasibul Alam Prodhan of Law and Justice Department of Rajshahi University spoke on the occasion.
Academics, judicial officials, legal experts, human rights activists, civil society members, journalists and representatives of non-government organisation (NGO) also took part in the discussion, covering mainly issues relating to human rights, poverty and social inequality.
