Sunday, 26 April 2009

The four-team Group A matches of the AFC Challenge Cup qualifiers begin in Dhaka today (Sunday) at Bangabandhu National Stadium with hosts Bangladesh eyeing the top slot, reports UNB.
Two matches will be held on the opening day with Myanmar taking on Macau at 3:30 pm while hosts Bangladesh face Cambodia at 6 pm.
State-owned Bangladesh Television (BTV) will telecast live all the matches.
Four teams-Bangladesh, Myanmar, Cambodia and Macau-will play on league basis for the top slot of Group A to qualify for the final round of AFC Challenge Cup.
The best runners-up team from among the four Asian groups will also qualify for the eight-team final round along with champions of four groups and three top finishers of the last meet.
In a pre-match press briefing at a local hotel Saturday, Brazilian coach of Bangladesh team Edson Silva Dido said, "I do hope my team will perform well in the ensuing tournament… and we go for the first place."
