Afridi the game-changer: Mushfiqur

Thursday, 6 March 2014

Bangladesh skipper Mushfiqur Rahim is thoroughly disappointed with their defeat against Pakistan despite making the highest One Day International (ODI) score, reports bdnews24.com.
He believes in-form Shahid Afridi's whirlwind innings took the game away from the Tigers in Tuesday's match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in the city.
"Afridi made the difference. They required more than 10 runs per over. Not too many batsmen have the ability to save matches from there," he said at the post-match press conference.
Afridi proved his ability by hitting Shakib Al Hasan, Bangladesh's best bowler, for three sixes in an over, according to Mushfiq. The captain has little to do when the best bowler is dealt with such ease.
Abdur Razzak was milked for none for 72 in nine overs. Pakistani batsmen scored runs comfortably off him. The skipper had to face the question of threat to Razzak's career.
"I don't think his is in danger. He proved his ability over the last eight to ten years. He tried today as well; maybe it didn't happen for some reason."
Mushfiq clarified the omission of Rubel Hossain and Arafat Sunny, both of whom were in rhythm.
"Rubel has a minor injury. He has been playing in every match since the New Zealand tour. So he has been rested. Razzak is an experienced bowler. We wanted to make use of his experience."
Mahmudullah Riyad, who was left out due to poor form, replaced off-spinner Shohag Gazi. Mushfiq also explained the reason of inclusion of the allrounder instead of specialist bowlers.
"Pakistan has a strong bowling line-up. Zia is a good batsman. But he was brought in to score quickly in the last 10-15 overs. If we had lost five wickets quickly we would have been in trouble, so an extra batsman was included."
