Afroza Abbas secures bail from HC

The High Court (HC) Thursday granted bail to jailed Afroza Abbas, wife of ex-housing and public works minister and BNP leader Mirza Abbas, in two tax-evasion cases filed by the National Board of Revenue (NBR), reports UNB.
An HC division bench headed by Justice MA Wahhab Miah passed the orders upon two pending appeals.
The bail orders remain valid until disposal of the appeals pending with it, the court said.
On April 11, Afroza Abbas was sent to jail after she had surrendered to a Dhaka court in connection with two tax evasion cases in which she was sentenced to 16 years' imprisonment.
On September 2, 2007, the trial court sentenced Afroza to 16 years' imprisonment and fined her Tk 49.2 million in connection with the cases.
