Aftab murder trial next month

The trial in photojournalist Aftab’s murder case will begin next month, the Third Additional Metropolitan District Judge Imrul Kayes has said. He fixed Augus 12 as the hearing date on Thursday. Six people accused in the case are driver Humayun Kabir, Habib Howlader, Sabuj Khan, Belal Hossain, Raju Munshi, and Md Russel. State prosecutor Asaduzzaman Khan Rachi said, ‘Russel is on the run and Sabuj Khan is out on bail.’ Before the charges were formed, all the accused, except Russel, claimed innocence and sought a fair trial. Habib Howlader, Billal Hossain and Humayun Kabir had also given their confessional statements. The charge-sheet against the six was framed under Clause 396 of the Bangladesh Penal Code for committing robbery and murder. Aftab Ahmed, former senior photojournalist of The Daily Ittefaq was murdered in his Rampura house on December 25, 2013. The following day, his brother-in-law Monower Ahmed Sagar filed a case against some unknown people, according to bdnews24.com.
