Agitated garment workers halt traffic movement at Uttara, Tongi

Workers of two garments factories staged separate demonstrations at Uttara and Tongi halting the traffic movement on Dhaka-Mymensingh road Wednesday.
At Uttara, over 500 workers of Argryle Sweaters Ltd. put up barricade on Dhaka-Mymensingh road at 8am Wednesday demanding payment of salary. Traffic movement on the road halted for about one hour. The police rushed to the spot and dispersed the angry demonstrators by resorting to baton charge.
Several hundred workers of AB Ishmat Garments, Tongi staged demonstration obstructing traffic on Dhaka-Tongi road at 10am Wednesday. The police of Tongi thana rushed to the spot and resorted to baton charge that left some 25 workers injured, the police said. Traffic on the Dhaka-Tongi road resumed at 10.30am.
