Agora launches first Bangladeshi Super Centre

Chittagong, May 26: Agora launched the first SuperCentre of Bangladesh in the port city Chittagong today.
Afroz Rahim, chairman of Rahimafrooz Group, opened up shopping by formally cutting the ribbon while Group managing director Firoz Rahim, directors Niaz Rahim and Mudasir Murtaza, CEO of Agora Ranjan D. Silva along with the corporate high ups were present on the occasion.
Earlier in the morning, in a press conference at Chittagong Press Club Niaz Rahim, MD of Rahimafrooz Superstores Ltd, the operating company of Agora said that Agora has been established as a successful venture through clean environment and providing ambiance to its customers in Dhaka city since 2001.
Agora has started its journey in Chittagong as a super centre with extensive range of products including general merchandise, fresh perishable items with everyday necessities that range 11,000 items in its basket of products.
Among others CEO Ranjan D. Silva, head of operation Shams Haider and head of procurement Nizam Chowdhury were present in the press conference.
Niaz Rahim said supermarket is not only a concept but it has contributed to the economy of the country by paying VATs, providing employment opportunities and saving foreign exchange.
"Many of the products that were earlier imported are now being produced in the country and have opened up a possibility for export," he said. He emphasised that supermarket can play an important role through providing linkage between the producers and the customers. He mentioned a venture of Agora like 'Sabuj Setu' that tied up 1000 growers with Agora.
