Agri technology fair begins in Pirganj

RANGPUR, Apr 19: A four-day long Seed and Agriculture Technology fair began at Pirganj Upazila in Rangpur district Sunday. Department of Agriculture Extension, Pirganj, organised the fair. Abdul Kalam Azad MP formally inaugurated the fair as the chief guest. Presided over by Deputy Director of DAE Rangpur Zone Hasanur Rahman the opening ceremony was attended among others by UNO Pirganj, Firoz Ahmed, Panel Chairman Monsefa Parvin, Upazila Awami League president Rowshan Ara Wahed, Upazila Agriculture Officer AKM Nurul Amin. A total of 50 stalls have been set up in the fair. Different kinds of seeds, agro products, cage culture of fish, ribbon retting of jute, paddy thrashing equipment, making of compost fertiliser are being displayed in the fair. A large number of people are visiting the fair everyday with much enthusiasm. Another report adds: Speakers at a conference Saturday emphasised the necessity of including 'Agriculture' in the syllabuses at the graduation level. The conference was organised at the Islamic Foundation auditorium in Rangpur town. They said despite the special emphasis laid on the agriculture sector by the government, the expected result has not yet been achieved owing to a lack of proper knowledge about the latest technology of cultivation. They also urged the government to meet the demand for qualified teachers on this subject. Agriculturist Shawakat Momen Shajahan, MP, Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Agriculture Ministry addressed the conference as the chief guest with BCATA President agriculturist Gias Uddin Chowdhury in the chair.
