Agriculture officer confined for fertiliser

FARIDPUR, Sept 16: Farmers of Boalmari upazila kept upazila agriculture officer confined demanding supply of urea fertiliser recently.
Police and local sources said around five thousand farmers gheraoed the fertiliser godown of dealer Ratan Sikder at Chandpur Bazar in the upazila demanding smooth supply of urea fertiliser.
On information, upazila agriculture officer Rafiqul Islam rushed to the spot to see the condition for himself. The farmers also gheraoed him and kept him confined in a building of local union parishad. They also kept two block supervisors Nurul Islam and Delwar Hossain confined in the building.
The farmers in support of their demand took position on a road in Chandpur Bazar.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Boalmari upazila Md Abdul Awal rushed to the spot and pacified the farmers by assurance of supplying fertiliser according to their demand. Then farmers freed the three persons from confinement.
