Ahsan Manzil Museum to be digitalized soon

Ahsan Manzil Museum, one of the most significant architectural monuments of the country, will be digitised to open an opportunity for visitors of any corner of the world to see its archeological grandeur, reports BSS.
The work for digitization will begin soon with a view to spreading its rare relics all over the world through internet so that visitors can see these relics, an official of Ahsan Manzil told the news agency.
Dr Muhammad Alamgir of the museum said the number of visitors of Ahsan Manzil are increasing day by day and nearly 3,000 visitors come daily. Around one million visitors from home and abroad visit Ahsan Manzil every year.
After assuming power, the present government has carried out renovation works of the Ahsan Manzil for preserving its archeological relics.
Information and Cultural Affairs Minister Abul Kalam Azad inaugurated the newly renovated gallery of the Ahsan Manzil last year.
Nearly 3,500 relics used by the Nawabs have been kept at 23 galleries of the museum.
Dr Alamgir said 11 more galleries will be constructed at a cost of Tk 22.5 million soon.
A total of 93 belongings of Nawabs have been collected from members of Nawab families during the tenure of the present government, he said.
The Ahsan Manzil sources said Ahsan Manzil was the official palace and seat of the Dhaka Nawab Family. The construction of this palace was started in the year 1859 and completed in 1872. This magnificent building is situated along the banks of the Buriganga River in Dhaka city.
To preserve the culture and history of the area, the place was brought under Bangladesh National Museum in 1992.
Established on a raised platform of one metre, the two-storey palace is 125.4m in length and 28.75m in width. The height of the ground floor is five metres and the height of the first floor 5.8 metres. The thickness of the walls of the palace is about 0.78 metres.
