AI in schools - a leap towards smart learning

Friday, 25 July 2025

The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into Bangladesh's school curriculum is not just a novel idea; it is a crucial step towards preparing future generations for a rapidly evolving world. As technology continues to reshape industries and daily life, equipping students with AI literacy has become a necessity rather than an option.
Why AI is Essential for Our Students: The global job market is increasingly seeking individuals who are proficient in AI. By introducing concepts such as machine learning, data analytics, and coding at an early age, students will acquire the skills needed to thrive in tomorrow's economy and contribute to Bangladesh's transition to a knowledge-based society.
AI can facilitate this by providing intelligent tutoring systems and adaptive learning platforms. For Bangladesh, where the student-to-teacher ratio is 30:1 according to the World Bank, and educational disparities exist, AI promises a more inclusive and effective learning environment.
Additionally, AI has the potential to democratise education. Virtual classrooms, AI-powered translation tools for local dialects, and even offline AI applications can deliver quality learning materials to remote and underserved areas. This ensures that education can reach everyone, regardless of their geographical location.
Furthermore, learning about AI helps students understand how these technologies function, their ethical implications, and how to use them responsibly to solve real-world problems. Engaging activities, such as AI hackathons, can stimulate creativity and develop critical thinking skills that are essential for innovation.
Countries like China, South Korea, the UAE, and India are already integrating AI into their school curricula. Therefore, Bangladesh should embrace AI education to remain competitive in the global STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) landscape.
