AI traffic cameras now at 19 city intersections
Nearly 1,500 cases so far filed using AI cameras
FE REPORT | Wednesday, 1 July 2026
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed has said artificial intelligence (AI)-based traffic cameras are now operational at 19 key intersections across the capital.
"AI cameras were previously installed at 15 intersections, and with the addition of four more now, the total number has risen to 19," he said while talking to the journalists after inaugurating an AI traffic camera at the deputy commissioner (traffic) office in the capital's Tejgaon area on Tuesday.
He also noted that work is underway to install AI cameras at other key intersections across the city. Nearly 1,500 traffic cases have so far been filed using AI cameras. As fines vary depending on the nature of the offences, the latest figures on total collections are available with the Traffic Division.
"When traffic violations are detected with the cameras, prosecution notices are sent not only via SMS but also by post to the registered owner's address. In addition, text messages are sent from the designated number of the DMP Traffic Division. Details of the prosecution are also published on its website."
The DMP commissioner noted that around 38,000 summons have been issued so far.
On the issue of battery-powered auto-rickshaws operating in the capital, he said the DMP's enforcement drive against such vehicles is continuing. But it is not possible to remove all such auto-rickshaws from the city immediately.
"The Ministry of Home Affairs and the DMP have adopted a policy decision regarding battery-powered auto-rickshaws. The DMP is now working with the relevant stakeholders to implement the decision, and necessary measures will be introduced gradually under a coordinated plan," he continued.
Additional Commissioner (Traffic) Anisur Rahman was present along with other senior officials from the DMP and the Tejgaon Traffic Division.
