Air Asia resumes Dhaka operations after four years

Air Asia, the continent's top budget carrier, will resume its flights on the Dhaka-Kuala Lumpur route from July 10 this year after a gap of four years.
The first flight will take off on July 10 evening from the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA). It will fly seven days a week.
The announcement came at a press conference organised by the local general sales agent (GSA) of the Air Asia Total Air Services Ltd in the city on Monday.
The fare of the return ticket on the Dhaka-Kuala Lumpur route has been fixed at Tk 24,499 including tax and excise duty.
However, for the inaugural flight, the fare will be Tk 22,499. It can only be availed by the passengers who will book online directly.
Total Air Service Ltd Managing Director Sadi Abdullah said Air Asia aimed to ease air travel for the middle-income Bangladeshi passengers at a reasonable cost.
Besides, students, labourers, families and corporate group passengers will get a 10 per cent discount on the travel cost for direct purchase of tickets from the GSA counters at Motijheel, Banani, Gulshan, Dhanmondi and Uttara, he further said.
Air Asia started operation in 2009 in Bangladesh. Later it suspended the operation in 2011 due to various complications.
Mr Abdullah told reporters that Air Asia now flies to over 129 countries worldwide.
Bangladeshi passengers may enjoy travel by the connecting flights from Malaysia to all the destinations at a reasonable price, he added.
