Thursday, 20 November 2025

The Department of Media and Mass Communication (MMC) at the American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) recently organised a training of trainers (ToT) session on digital security at its permanent campus.
The session was conducted by Sanjay Gathia, programme manager at the Asia Centre. He discussed a wide range of emerging issues, including different types of online frauds, scams, and platform-based threats. He also addressed vulnerabilities associated with the IoT, the rise of AI and AI-driven cyber risks, and the mechanisms individuals and institutions can adopt to strengthen digital safety and resilience.
Dr. AJM Shafiul Alam Bhuiyan, Adviser to the Department of MMC, underscored the growing importance of digital security in the modern era, emphasising its critical relevance for media practitioners, who increasingly rely on digital platforms for information, communication, and content dissemination.
The initiative was part of the CJEN Bangladesh and the Asia Centre. The Digital Security Training (DST) programme, launched by the Asia Centre with the support of Google, aimed at mitigating the negative impact of misinformation, digital threats, and cyber-security risks across the Asia-Pacific region.
Journalism and Mass Communication faculty members from multiple universities, along with students, actively engaged throughout the programme. The session concluded with an interactive question-and-answer segment, allowing the participants to seek clarification and deepen their understanding of effective digital protection strategies.
